MMORPGs are getting very boring...

Today I find my self returning to a very, very old MMORPG. In fact this MMORPG was the Grandfather of all MMORPGs. This game is called Ultima Online. While the population on the shard I play on (Yamato) is quite low and the game is never the same, I find my self not wanting to play any of the new MMORPGs that I’ve tried.

I’ve tried a lot of MMORPGs over that years, in fact I’m going to list them all:

I’m bored. I’m bored of all these games, and I want a new game, a fresh experience bundled with a great community.

Why are they boring?
It’s because for me, every new MMORPG is just trying to recreate the UO experience for others; sure they tweak stuff here and there, such as the combat system, the graphics, but none of that is important. What was important and what made UO very successful at the time was the community, the experience of “I’ve never seen anything or played anything like it!” The game and genre together were both fresh and unique and provided many players the new adventure everyone was looking for.

The problem now is that we’ve all been on this adventure, over and over again. Maybe it’s the genre itself, maybe, I’m just sick of MMORPGs, however I do want to play something massive that can give me that great experience again that I once had.

Why has this not happened yet?

And don’t tell me it’s at game x and y, chances are, I’ve been there, seen it, played it, and left it, because it isn’t there.

I’ve thought hard and deep about the philosophy of making a great computer game, and I say computer game, because I find console games never held me as long as a computer game could, and don’t make me read you that list.

So this is my first post, on a blog that I built from scratch in less than 30 minutes with my awesome programming skills.

Eventually, this will be the home of a project, for now, it’s the home of my words; but I have a deep strong feeling, that I’m going to pioneer something in the gaming industry, and it will be special.

But for right now, I just want to try and have some fun and enjoy a game that once was very inspiring for me and made some tough times fly by in my life. So if you’re interested in playing Ultima Online and willing to play on Japan server Yamato, drop me an e-mail, I check my e-mail daily and it’s the best way to reach me.

Thanks for reading.
